Bereavement affects everyone in different ways, and it's possible to experience any range of emotions. Grief is normal and a process, but there is no right or wrong way to feel. Feelings of grief can also happen because of other types of loss or unexpected changes in circumstances.

Grief does not discriminate. We will all be affected by a bereavement. Children, young people, the older generation, all faiths, all religions, all cultures, all sectors of our community will grieve.

People can sometimes feel they have to hide their grief from others. Sometimes it is from their friends and family as they do not want to burden them. Sometimes it is from their colleagues at work.

Someone asking and checking they are okay, in the early days and ongoing can make a huge difference.  They may look alright, but they could be struggling and just need some time and space to talk with someone who is listening.
